Were you aware that 46-48% of children with autism have Pyrrole disorder, also known as Pyroluria?

Most know nothing about this disorder which is generally caused by the same assault that leads to autism and other nervous system damage: vaccines and other metals.

Pyroluria, or Pyrrole disorder, is a condition induced by stress (high cortisol). Individuals with this condition produce too much of kryptopyrrole, a by-product of hemoglobin synthesis. This kryptopyrrole binds to and depletes the body of vitamin B6, magnesium, and zinc, three nutrients involved in the production of neurotransmitters, gut health, and mood regulation. As such, deficiencies of these nutrients can eventually result in increased anxiety, cognitive issues, trouble sleeping, difficulties concentrating, and even nervous twitching. As you may have guessed, pyroluria is common in autism: it is estimated that 46 to 48% of children with autism also suffer from pyroluria

Looking into this more Pyrrole Disorder causes stimming, agitation, and typical autism behaviours.

Mental conditions that have been associated with pyroluria include:

• acute intermittent porphyria

• ADHD

• autism/Asperger’s

• rapid cycling bipolar disorder

• depression

• Down’s syndrome

• learning difficulties

• schizophrenia

• Tourette’s syndrome

• alcoholism

• also associated with violent and criminal behaviour and substance abuse

Pyrrole disorder can be diagnosed by a kryptopyrrole test (you can order this from Great Plains Labs - The urine test is $250 USD) which is designed to find elevated kryptopyrroles in urine. The Kryptopyrrole test carefully determines the levels of pyrroles the body excretes.

It is treatable with zinc, magnesium (topical) and certain types of vitamin B6: P5P (pyridoxal 5’ phosphate).

But here is some VERY important information that you have to dig deeper to find, people with pyrrole disorder often react poorly to Omega 3 and Omega 6 from fish oil, but not necessarily from other oils such as Evening Primrose oil or Borage oil.

Many children with autism are on fish oil/cod liver oil. Many kids with autism are not on a zinc supplement or a B6 supplement.

I don't recommend anyone stops giving fish oil before getting test results as there are many benefits to omega 3 and 6.

You do not need to be on the autism spectrum to have pyrrole disorder, many people with ADHD also have it and so do many who have neither autism nor ADHD. This can be epigenetically acquired through environmental and emotional stress and especially from 'leaky gut syndrome'.

This disorder can be treated with three supplements and dropping another (some people with Pyrrole Disorder are fine on fish oil and some are not).

If you have a child with autism, please consider doing this test. Very few people are even aware of this disorder. B6, magnesium, and zinc are ESSENTIAL for us to operate properly and people with pyrrole disorder need to take specific high doses of it. Essential means our bodies do not make this on their own. People with pyrrole do not absorb enough from food alone because: in order for B6 to be used by the body it must first be converted to pyridoxal 5’-phosphate (P5P), a process that takes place in the liver. Individuals with compromised liver function have difficulty making this conversion and consequently may be at risk of a vitamin B6 deficiency. Supplementing with Pyridoxal 5’-Phosphate ensures patients receive the most bioactive form of vitamin B6.

Also, copper levels should be about equal to zinc and often people with pyrrole disorder have high copper and low zinc. This is something that also can be tested for.

Supplementing with Pyridoxal 5’-Phosphate ensures patients receive the most bioactive form of vitamin B6.

Is also important for people who actually have extremely high B6 with no apparent reason and should take this form of B6.

MTHFR Gene Mutation

Paradoxically, one of the signs of having the genetic mutation is that those affected can have high folic acid, high Vitamin B12 Levels, or Vitamin B6 Toxicity. However, despite these high levels, they actually have intracellular deficiencies! In fact, the study Neurometabolic Disorders: Potentially Treatable Abnormalities in Patients With Treatment-Refractory Depression and Suicidal Behavior showed that many people with depression have normal folate levels in their blood, but have low CEREBRAL levels of folate, which may be contributing to their depression.

This is because the gene does not allow people to change the synthetic forms of vitamin B12 and folic acid, which are often contained in fortified foods and almost all ‘cheap’ multivitamins, into the active forms in their blood that they need, and these 'pre-vitamins' buildup and become toxic byproducts in the blood rather than being converted into a form usable by the cells of the body. In other words, taking vitamins and eating packaged foods could be making those with the MTHFR gene toxic and sick!
